Welcome to AFA

Welcome to Atrial Fibrillation Association (AFA), an international organisation which provides information, support and access to established, new or innovative treatments for Atrial Fibrillation (AF).
Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is the most common heart rhythm disorder (arrhythmia) encountered by doctors. It occurs when chaotic electrical activity develops in the upper chambers of the heart (the atria). As a result, the atria no longer beat in an organised, regular rhythm, the pulse is irregular and as a result, the pumping of the heart is less efficient.

AFA aims to:

1. To provide support and information on Atrial Fibrillation to those affected by this condition
2. To advance the education of the medical profession and the general public on the subject of Atrial Fibrillation
3. To promote research into the management of Atrial Fibrillation
The success and growth of AFA-UK has prompted and inspired international development and awareness. With this in mind AFA-International has been established, with the overall aim of ensuring that anyone presenting symptoms of AF receives the correct diagnosis, the appropriate treatment, informed support and sign posting to an appropriate medical professional
